04 Apr How I get my energy back
It is not a secret that to be a self-employed requires a lot of energy and therefore it is not an unusual thing to feel drained and exhausted. Proactively I work on many different assignments and projects so I don’t get lost in the monotonous everyday. New tasks keeps me constantly in progress and develops me as a self-employed as well as a human being.
The things I do…
I start my day by walking my dog. It gives me time through out the walk to do some thinking concerning my daily schedule, what I need to achieve in a day and which tasks that needs to be solved. The walk also calms me down and helps me get ready for what ever to expect. Therefore when I don’t have the dog I still take a long walk in the morning as well in the evening. I am closing up the day by asking my self; what did I accomplish today? Did I do good or bad? What could I have done better? Also during my walks I need to unload all the stuff thats going through my head. I stop, take a deep breath and empty my head for all the problems and concerns I have with clients, employees or suppliers. It helps me to keep my head high and maintain my gumption.
It is also very important to me I get my sleep and in general maintain a healthy lifestyle. I have been injured for the past 8 month but normally I do a lot of sports e.g tennis, running, fitness and swimming. I love being active and keeping in shape. Sports triggers endorphins, which gives me extra energy.
I often celebrate and share my success with my self, nearest family and friends. Keeping up the good mood and being happy is definitely what drives me and I can tell it affects others.
Also different working spots gives me good energy and inspiration. At this moment I am actually sitting on a beautiful balcony in Miami with an ocean view, writing this blog post.
When it goes deeper…
As you can tell I don’t have a big amount of energy left when everything is done but still I keep going. I often move my work abroad. By doing this it surely breaks my daily rhythm but I can tell you it’s all worth it. The travels can be for a shorter period of time or up to 3 months in a row.
In the months of june, july and august I move the office to South France. It is a good way to network with the Danish agencies before, during and after the film festival in Cannes. I also use the occasion to network with Danish leaders over the summer because many Danes rent apartments there for their summer holiday. I am meeting them when they are out of their routines and I can then easily get their attention and most of the time I get incredible results out of this method. Furthermore Sophia Antipolis, Europe’s answer to Silicon Valley, is located only 30 minutes drive from Nice. I often arrange meetings there with interesting people and discuss different subjects e.g Google AdWords, digital marketing, online recruitment and reputation management.
This part of the year is normally a calm period of time in Copenhagen for business. So when I am finally home I take the opportunity to work on my next projects or work on tasks I haven’t had the time to do in a normal workday.
I created my online recruitment company and my reputation management business over two summers down there and as you can see, it paid off.
When I need to stop…
Sometimes I am working very hard for a longer period of time and are very stressed out. Therefore I need to turn of my phone and computer for a day or two. It happens rarely but when it happens, I see it as a luxury to be able to do that.
I sometimes go to the SPA or book a massage. I just do stuff where I nourish and pampers my self so I have enough energy to start work again.
